Anita Winter
Anita Winter, the daughter of two Holocaust survivors, is a dedicated advocate for Holocaust remembrance and human rights. Born in Switzerland, Winter has made it her life’s mission to ensure that the stories of Holocaust survivors are never forgotten. As the founder and president of the Gamaraal Foundation, she has provided both financial and emotional support to survivors, many of whom live in poverty and isolation. The foundation also promotes education about the Holocaust, aiming to pass down the lessons of history to future generations.
Winter’s journey into this humanitarian work was not immediate. She first had a successful career in the fashion industry, running her own clothing line, Anita S., and representing well-known labels. However, after the birth of her fourth child, she chose to focus on raising her family, planning to return to fashion later. By the time she was ready, the industry had changed, leading her to explore new professional challenges. The Women Back to Business (WBB) program inspired her to make bold decisions and rethink her career, which ultimately led to the creation of the Gamaraal Foundation.
For Winter, this foundation is not just a professional endeavor but a deeply personal one, driven by her commitment to honoring her parents’ survival and her belief in the power of education. Her work is influenced by her grandfather’s advice: “You can lose everything in life, except your education.” This philosophy has shaped her belief in the importance of education not only as a means of acquiring knowledge but also as a way to develop compassion and character.
Through initiatives such as the multimedia exhibition “The Last Swiss Holocaust Survivors,” Winter ensures that the stories of survivors are preserved and shared globally. She believes that peace can be achieved through education and small acts of kindness, inspired by figures like Mother Teresa. Winter’s work serves as a powerful reminder of the dangers of hatred and intolerance, as well as the importance of working toward a more just and compassionate world.
