Giuseppe Stornelli
Giuseppe Stornelli is a passionate technologist and innovation leader who has been making strides in the application of space data for infrastructure monitoring since 2018 at Sipal Spa, an entirely Italian-owned company. His focus on ethically-driven projects has led to significant advancements in road and railway infrastructure monitoring, promoting safety and sustainability.
Stornelli has led several research and development projects in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), including the DINAMO project, which developed a GIS-based platform for the structural monitoring of bridges and viaducts. This platform integrates spatial data, such as radar and optical information, with in situ sensors like accelerometers, inclinometers, and strain gauges. In 2019, he contributed to the ESA project ASSURE, which aimed at blockchain certification of GNSS data for monitoring purposes.
These initiatives have evolved into an Asset Management Platform currently used by major Italian motorway operators. In addition to his work in infrastructure monitoring, Stornelli has contributed to mission analysis for satellite constellations used in Earth observation and satellite telecommunications (TLC). He currently leads the Space & Electronics department at Sipal Spa, where he develops value-added services with satellite data, including infrastructure and pipeline monitoring. His department also creates augmented reality tools for maintenance management in the military sector, specifically for aircraft and land vehicles.
